Customized solution lets utility company migrate to new radio system with no risks or downtime

An American Gas and Electric company needed to to migrate to a new 800 MHz radio system. 
The migration from their 900 MHz legacy system had to take place simultaneously across 25 sites without interruptions to radio operations.

Currently, many US public safety radio system owners face the task of migrating to 800 MHz, as frequency regulators push to free up the 900 MHz spectrum for commercial use. Transitioning to a new radio system is a tricky business with several potential issues.

Combilent developed and delivered a custom-designed dual-band 800/900 MHz TTA/RMC solution. This allowed the utility company to operate the old and new radio system in parallel to run a seamless migration, bringing a number of benefits.

With no interruptions to radio operations, the utility company experienced no critical downtime during the migration, minimizing the level of risk involved.

Smooth user transition
The utility company could switch off the old radio system one user at the time during the transition to the new radio system.
